Sometimes breastfeeding looks like this…

This was how I fed my baby on my first breastfeeding journey. We struggled for months. A medicated birth, weak latch, undiagnosed tongue and lip ties, months of unsupportive advice to supplement with formula instead of diagnosing the problem, pumping after every single feeding, tears and worries, and yet we found a way. I had the benefit of supportive family, and the luck to finally get connected with an IBCLC who helped us learn how to use the SNS (supplemental nursing system) and let me come in daily until I knew my baby was getting what he needed. I also received the gift of donated breastmilk from many local moms, two sisters in particular donated thousands of ounces. We are friends to this day.

I breastfed my first baby until he was nearly three like this. It wasn’t easy, but my goodness it was worth it.
